Technical Parameters

 Pneumatic spillway gates system that uses air as a medium to raise the gate system and allow water to pass over the top of the gate (top flow control). The system will maintain a constant upstream water level as dictated by a pressure transducer.

The pneumatic spillway gate includes essential parts consisting of but not limited to gate panels, air bladders, anchors, control cubicles, air compressors, all fasteners and monitoring system necessary for complete pneumatic spillway gate system.

 

Main parts:

The works shall comprise design, manufacture, supply, delivery, installation, testing and commissioning of pneumatic spillway gate at the location indicated on the drawings.

The contractor shall supply all necessary instruction manuals, tools and equipment to enable the Employer's personnel to operate and maintain the pneumatic spillway gate in accordance with specification.

 

The contractor shall instruct and train the Employer's personnel in the operation, maintenance and repair of the pneumatic spillway gate.

 

Scope of Supply

Items to be supplied by the contractor shall include but not limited to the following:

i.  Steel gate panels.

ii. Polyester reinforced air bladders for above gates and associated piping components. The polyester shall have at least 2 bias ply fabric and shall have a minimum strength of 16MPa in accordance with ASTM D751 standard or equivalent.

iii. Reinforced rubber inter-panel seals and stainless steel attachment hardware.

iv. Galvanized carbon steel clamps with stainless steel anchor bolts, nuts, and washers.

v. Reinforced rubber restraining straps and hot dip galvanized steel attachment hardware.

vi. Plastic Nappe breakers (pultruded polyethylene material) and stainless steel attachment hardware.

vii. Stainless steel abutment plates and ancillaries.

viii. Control cabinets (valve control and PLC cabinet).

ix. Anchor bolt setting templates.

x. Condensation drain and associated piping.

xi. Pressure relief valve to be fitted to the air supply line.

xii. Air compressors and dryer.

xiii. Electrical system.

 

Control system construction:

 A complete and operational control system for the pneumatic spillway gate  consists of a programmable logic controller (PLC) cabinet, air regulator control cabinet and water level pressure transducer.

The PLC will operate in conjunction with the pressure transducer to inflate or deflate the gate as required. The PLC will automatically adjust the gate position as required in order to maintain an operator input water elevation or salinity set point. It shall incorporate a human machine interface (HMI) to allow the operator to monitor the system function and change operational parameters.

In addition to the pressure transducer, a salinity meter located downstream of the gate will also be used for gate operation to prevent salt water infiltration.

 

The air regulator control cabinet shall incorporate inflate and deflate solenoid valves along with other required mechanical equipment and instruments. Air actuated piston valves shall be utilized for the automated control of the air pressure in the bladders.

Gauges shall be provided on the Air Control Cabinet for monitoring the Inlet Pressure and bladder pressure.
