Peroxide is a compound containing O-O bond (Fig. 1). It is a very special chemical functional group. The peroxide bond breaks when heated to produce free radicals. The breaking of this bond is called homogeneous splitting, because the two electrons in the bond are separated. This free radical has high reactivity and is the driving force for initiating polymer crosslinking.
